The Toxic Avenger Ultra-violent, campy acting, lots of sex, cheesy effects and score, and kind of has an anti-pollution message behind it. This really is one of the most ridiculous movies I think I've ever seen, yet I still loved it. Urban Explorers: Into the Darkness Decent little documentary about the subculture that surrounds urban exploration, i.e. going into abandoned, condemned, or underground areas in an urban center. It's something I've always wanted to do but never got around to because nobody I knew seemed all that keen on the idea, plus there's the possibility of being charged with trespassing which can hurt my career choice. Definitely worth a view if you're already into urban exploration, but if you're not it won't grant you any epiphanies. |

SLC Punk! Awesome film! Seriously this film just works. It's funny, honest, knowledgeable in its subject matter, has a good script and small but memorable cast, and a killer soundtrack. Essentially it's about two anarchistic punks living in Salt Lake City Utah in the mid '80's, which if you don't already know is not exactly what one would call an alternative lifestyle haven... yeah... having been there and living so close to it and a large Mormon population I think some of the jokes were a little more personal. If you are looking for a funny little independent comedy/drama about lifestyles based around music, definitely check this film out. |

Hobo With a Shotgun
Incredible. From the over the top violence to the ever-present nostalgia, it was truly a great film.

Simply breathtaking, one of the most influentially brilliant films of all time. Some of the scenes rank among my absolute favourites. I can't believe I had this on DVD for so long but put off watching it. So minimalistic and simple, yet so dense and complex at the same time. |

Watched 127 hours again last night on blu ray. What an amazing story and progression of a movie. Franco is just righteous in this role. Danny Boyle did not disappoint. The fact he could take something with seemingly no plot besides seclusion and despair and make it so entertaining was impressive.
I'll be looking for Boyles next movie, the cinematography was supreme, the acting was top notch and the reverence for life was inspiring. Awesome movie. 5/5! |

Dante's Inferno (2007) Pretty low budget adaptation Sandow Birk and Marcus Sanders' re-telling of the famous poem, moving it to a contemporary urban setting (Los Angeles). It's also done completely with hand drawn puppets and for the most part it works pretty well. There's some pretty decent voice acting although the only voice I recognized was James Cromwell as Virgil. There were a couple of funny jabs at modern day politics, although they did get a little too liberal douchey at times, but seeing Fox News in the 8th Circle (fraud) was pretty funny. If you have streaming Netflix it's on that right now, so if you're interested in the subject matter, definitely give the movie a try. |
