I've heard alot of people say it was hands down the best performance of Brad Pitt's career. Was he really that good in it?

I wouldn't have said he was outstanding or anything, but it was a great performance. Best of his career? I wouldn't argue against that. The children actors were great as well. The Tree of Life reminds me of other films that initially had a polarising reaction, such as Mulholland Drive and Dogville, but over time they went on to be considered very important works. I think The Tree Of Life could be the same, despite its flaws.

If you don't like Motorhead or the idea of a 63 year old man still being a reprobate then it won't appeal but if you like even one Motorhead track then it is worth your time.

I didn't find out anything that I didn't already know and there was far too much Metallica in the film for my liking.

Lemmy did make a nice little aside about a few people in rock circles having to go through therapy whilst he just gets on with things.

Despite his legendary persona and abrupt answers he comes across just as you hoped he would. Down to earth with no ego and just doing the only thing he is good at. When he showed us the difference between most peoples bass playing and his I was beaming. Poor old Henry Rollins looks positively domesticated compared to Lemmy. Erudite for sure but next to Lemmy he just doesn't have that magnetism.

Absolutely mesmerising. It says a lot when the only criticism of a film has been 'pretentious', anyone who throws that word around when describing films is a bit of a cretin. I'd heard in equal measures unanimous praise and scorn for it. But the praise seemed to carry more weight. To call something visually stunning in this day and age always feels a little trite, to me. Then again, people said Avatar was visually stunning lol. But they were outstanding, I got the feeling I was watching something some what profound. It had its flaws, but they weren't in the direction nor the cinematography. Ahhh, that cinematography. If that doesn't win awards then I don't know what will. One of the best films of the decade thus far. 4/5

I will give credit for the cinematography. There were some beautiful images in the film but I don't know that they had anything to do with the movie. Overall it seemed to me a rather self-indulgent existential purging on behalf of the director. When he went off retracing the history of the universe for what felt like 20 minutes before returning to his somewhat sparse plot line I couldn't help but cringe. In the end it felt like I was watching a three hour perfume commercial. 1/5 from me.

Very solid post-apocalyptic goodness.

You know, after watching films like this, I can't help but pray for a horrific apocalypse. I know I wouldn't last a week in a world like this, but I still fantasize about being the bad-ass "Mad Max" solo road warrior, needing nothing or nobody, kicking zombie/vampire/biker-gang ass without ever breaking a sweat. How cool would that be?

It wasn't at all what I was expecting. Sure, I did expect liberal blood and gore and lots of camp value, but not this. I was hoping for something more along the lines of Kick-Ass or Kill Bill Vol. 1, but instead what I got was an unfunny, nearly soulless, appalling, and kind of disturbing bloodbath. That's not to say that it wasn't at all entertaining, but there were many times that I really felt like turning it off.

When I saw the trailer, I thought it looked like a bit like a Troma movie with a budget and Rutger Hauer. That's basically what I thought as I watched it too and so it definetly lived up to my expectations which were pretty much spot on .. I wouldn't call it soulless, in fact I thought Hauer put a lot of soul into his performance, definetly considering it's basically a cheap exploitation flick. In my opinion, when watching this film, one should compare it to the kind of cheap exploitation movies it draws inspiration from and in ways is a tribute to. I wouldn't expect people who don't know it's heritage to enjoy it much - or at least they're probably more likely to get disappointed because they expected something else.

I liked it a lot and I figure people who like Troma flicks like Toxic Avenger or the more recent Poultrygeist should definetly check it out :)

The fourth time I have seen this and **** the haters. This film gets better every time you watch it. If it was directed by anyone else other than Guy Ritchie then it would be taken more seriously.

Superb cinematography and editing and the music score works brilliantly. If this film was made by a first time director or even by someone like Lynch, then it would garner a lot more respect and despite its non linear plot it is far easier to decipher than say Mulholland Drive and makes a lot more sense too.

Brilliant. So much better than Spirited Away. 4/5
