^ Saw this for the first time a few hours back. Certainly good fun (yet another superb performance from Jack Nicholson), decent script, charmingly dated special effects for the final scene and that, but nothing earth-shatteringly brilliant by any stretch of the imagination.

Another classic, with a great creepy performance Bette Davis. It's wonderful to see her and Joan Crawford up against each other (not that way, behave).

Lord Of The Rings Fellow Ship Of The Ring

I've had all 3 movies on my shelf for a while, I bought them because I was in HMV and it was £15 down from £50 so I felt compelled to get it, but never really had any desire to watch it. Until last night, I decided I'd give it a watch and I thought it was brilliant, although this kind of stuff isn't really my cup of tea, I thought it was visually brilliant and despite the story line being a bit "oooh there's a ring, it's so powerful, we must destroy it" I'm really excited to see what happens in the second movie. 8/10.

You got a great deal for those movies. Lord Of The Rings is one of my favorite trilogies of all time, you will not be disappointed.

I guess I wasn't expecting much from it when I put it on which only made the film better, sometimes the hype and expectation ruin a film. But I wasn't expecting anything and thought it was a great film. Tempted to watch the second one now.

I love this version of it. There have been many, many adaptations of this concept throughout time which I think stemmed from the 'Faustian Bargain' (read the YouTube sidebar of this short film for more information if you're interested). The newest adaptation of it, which stars Cameron Diaz, I think is one of the worst.

I'm sure there are similar themes that can be found in other stories but The Box is based on a Richard Matheson short story which was originally filmed as a Twilight Zone episode in the mid 80s. As far as I can tell these are the only two filmed versions of this story in existence (according to Wikipedia there is also a radio adaptation).

According to that YouTube link, Black Button is not based on the Matheson story or the Twilight Zone episode. It is simply an original story with a similar premise, it is not inspired by the Matheson story nor is it the original version of the Richard Kelly film.
