Plus I remember Jim's creator talking smack about the Wii, that probably won't help his chances much. Simon Belmont and Mega Man are very natural choices though, compared to Snake and Sonic they played a much bigger role in Nintendo's history. And who wouldn't want to see Belmont vs Samus, the world's greatest vampire hunter vs the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter? Or Mega Man vs Sonic, the blue bomber vs the blue blur? |

i cannot believe that i JUST found this thread.
SSBB is ****ing FANTASTIC, to be honest it's the only game i spend my time on these days. my friends and i at my school play straight marathons of it in our campus center. my favorite character to play is Mr. Game & Watch, he's fairly qick as well as surprisingly strong. along with him i also like R.O.B., Fox and Ike. and i too love the chaotic nature of the games, attacks coming out of nowhere and the characters' abilities that are damn near unpredictable, which is why i hate when my friends prefer the bare minimum to all of the possiblities. also, GC controller all day, although i'm trying to improve on the wiimote and nunchuck. though the first time i tried it i held the nunchuck in my right hand and the wiimote in my left oh yeah, and when you guys play, do you have any specific strategy? i don't really, i just go for the hit the sh*t out of the other guy till he gets knocked out

For serious competition, go with Melee.
If you actually play games for fun, and not for some stupid tournaments that require you to neglect 99% of the game's content just to play the same two characters on the SAME stage over and over and over without any of the elements that make Smash Bros unique to begin with. Then go for Brawl. Besides, Melee is f*cking overrated as a serious competitive game anyway, it's crazy unbalanced, especially with all the abusable glitches. And for all the people who hate Brawl because it's more randomness than skill based and caters to more casual players, THAT'S THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE DAMN SERIES YOU IDIOTS! That was what made the original Super Smash Bros such a great game, it was different from every other fighter out there, when Melee came around, it had more to offer for the so called "hardcore", but they pretty much ruined Melee by stripping all of the things that made the series unique just so they can do the same stuff they can do in any fighting game. I don't think Sakurai liked that, so he took Brawl into a totally different direction, I can undestand why that pisses people off, but as far as I'm concerned that makes him my freaking hero, I'm glad tourney players are switching back to Melee because they would ruin Brawl just like they did that game. I said it once and I'll say it again. Melee is overrated as a competitive game, it was never meant to be a competitive game. Just about every other fighting game out there is superior in that department. I find it odd that one of the most popular tourney fighters is a game that was designed to be the exact opposite of a tourney fighter. |

I have never understood how Melee has gone on to please the hardcore. I absolutely loved Melee, don't get me wrong, but you're right - it was overrated. The amount of clones were ridiculous. To be quite honest, I don't understand the major difference between the gameplay of Melee and Brawl, but then again, I haven't played Melee in years. To my knowledge it was slightly slower and, obviously, didn't feature the amount of weaponry/smash balls... but you can turn all those off anyway

Brawl did a lot more to balance the roster out, meaning a lot of older characters are not as insanely powerful as they use to be, which pisses some people off. And unlike Melee, all the characters have their uses and I pretty much have fun using all of them A lot of the abusable glitches and special techniques are either removed entirely, very downplayed in their usefulness or made more difficult to do. The defensive strategy has been improved upon greatly, making it harder to break defenses, enemies don't flinch as much when they get hit, which makes doing combos a lot harder, arial attacks and grab moves are also trickier. There's also the tripping, which dosen't happen that often but it means that not even strict tourney matches are completely safe from a random outcome that could change the tide of a battle based on pure luck, I'm pretty much convinced Sakurai added that little touch specifically to piss these people off. This game is still as easy to pick up and play as previous games, and there's the ridiculous amount of added content of course, it has all the things that just make it a more complete and fun experience than previous games. Only thing is it's a lot harder to become a pro at this game than at Melee, which makes it a lot more balanced for fighters of all skill types, and seriously, that's the only reason people hate it. I mean, a fun and balanced game that anyone can play? That's just f*cking unacceptable. What use is a game if I can't show off at it? Making sure that less skilled players get just as much of a fun experience? NINTENDO HOW DARE YOU! Smash Bros is for the hardcoar only!!!!!11!! Being good at a video game is serious f*cking business. Assault was aight, but what happened to the multiple route system? And the on foot missions were fustrating and tideous. Just give me the Arwing and the Landmaster and I'm cool. Quote:
It's just a little quirk that makes it impossible for anyone to do serious tourney matches like with Melee, for that alone it's the best feature in the game. Last edited by boo boo; 10-10-2009 at 12:22 AM. |
