And I haven't even gotten to when Miura was drawing his best ****! And he's still improving! OMG I'm gonna calm down and wait a bit to order vol 4 which will presumably be the Dark Eclipse which is god tier drawing writing everything and vol 5 is available for preorder which would be the Lost Children arc right which has quite possibly Miura's most actually expressive and creative art and god damn it I need to change my underwear.

I've seen the show and it's fun as **** and everything I want from Hirano but the online editions of the manga are janky as **** and they cost a mint to buy. The second volume is like over a hundred dollars at least. WTF?

I think it was around when they were starting the sea voyage. It's been a few years since I was anywhere near current. Funny story, I had the first six volumes for years but never ended up getting any more of them cause I couldn't find them anymore. Then when I was started on this site using library computers I decided to read Berserk online. At the ****ing library. Can you imagine getting to the Wyald stuff you didn't know was coming or the troll stuff when you're at a library computer looking over your shoulder to see if the librarians can see what you're looking at? Was weird but I wasn't gonna let that stop me.

And believe you me some of what goes on in Berserk would be absolutely objectionable to any librarian. Kentaro Miura was most certainly influenced by Urotsukidoji and didn't care who knowed it. And if you don't know what Urotsukidoji is then just know that it invented tentacle porn.

Was looking for something new, but not utterly awful. This seems alright. |

Just read Shūzō Oshimi's A Trail of Blood/Chi no Wadachi and I think there's a horror manga artist/writer to compete with Junji Ito. Junji Ito is a master at illustrating fantastical, Lovecraftian horror that is pure nightmare fuel, but Shuzo Oshimi is a master at horror that relies purely on personal expression. Facial expressions, eye movements, linework that changes the mundane into the horrific, all coming together in masterful panel arrangements that produce pure anxiety even when nothing actually happens for vast stretches of time. Vast stretches of time that will haunt you. Like a prequel to Psycho you never knew you needed.

^ Was reading that a few weeks ago. Disturbing as all ****. Flowers Of Evil isn't half bad either.
Not really anime related but speaking of Lovecraft, been reading a lot of Laird Barron lately. If anyone deserves the Kentaro Miura graphic novel / manga treatment, it's Barron's stuff. His prose is something to behold. His novel The Light In The Darkness has a touch of Berserk in it's DNA for sure.
