Bro, Sword Art Online's terribleness is the biggest meme in all of anime. Youtubers have built "careers" on trashing SAO.

If you never checked out Record of Lodoss War I'd suggest giving that a shot. Also Vision of Escaflowne and Berserk (from 1997, not the current series). Oh and Castlevania isn't technically anime but it rocks and is definitely on Netflix.

Soo.. Neither of Ant's suggestions are on there, but there are 3 beserk movies covering the first 3 golden age arcs, and something called the Record of Grancrest War. I think i tried Castlevania one night before bed and was really bored, ill have to give it another shot.

I've only seen the second movie but I remember it being solid. Those movies have this weird mesh of 3d and 2d animation that doesn't always come off the best and can look downright janky at times, but it's hard to ruin Berserk. I say give them a shot even if it's not an optimal introduction to Berserk. For that you should always start with the manga.

Hey if the animation style doesn't bother you then great. Now buy this. Cause those movies are a fraction of a much larger story.

Meh.. The anime doesnt match the graphic novel graphics. I wouldn't mind seeing more of this beyond what netflix has though. Also, im already reading a trilogy and have 2 more to finish after this one.

I see they have the 2011 version of Hunter X Hunter there on Netflix. Now that's a friggin' great show.

I think it's mostly a money issue tbh. Most manga is drawn relatively simply since it's in black and white, so emphasis is given to making it pop off the page with designs that make an immediate impression, but Berserk is highly detailed, even compared to Western comics in color, and animating it properly would require a serious investment in time, money, and manpower. That's probably why the movies and current TV series opted for the combination of 3D and 2D animation, since 3D is cheaper, easier, and quicker to do, even if it really doesn't do justice to the original. Even the 97 series had to cut corners. It does the art style justice (to an extent) but there's a notable lack of actual animation. It doesn't help that it's a series that's hyper violent and probably wouldn't be able to be aired on whatever is primetime in Japan.

Compare the movie you're watching to this and ask yourself if you'd like to read the manga.

Spoiler for bigass pic:

I would also recommend that but I don't know if DWV is looking for that kind of show. He should be though.

I'd sacrifice my left arm and leg to the weaboo gods if Ufotable (the studio) did the next Berserk adaptation. They've got the chops and the attention to detail needed to create the adaptation we all deserve.
