^ Yep yep.

Outside of Berserk and JoJo, I also highly recommend Übel Blatt, Jujutsu Kaisen and Dorohedoro (in regards to manga that have have great artwork / legitimately good violent narratives).

Those are some solid things I'll check out probably I guess. Right now though I'm committed to at least collecting to the end of the Golden Age. I'm ****ing sick of rereading Berserk and stopping at volume 6 (not even quite up to the hundred man fight) cause that was the last volume I collected. At the very least if I'm going to stop this time I want to finish the Lost Children Arc. You know. The adult attack arc. ****ing great but also the greatest Guts artwork of the whole series.

Like if you want to say that Berserk had some ugly art then you need to see the arc that was the ugliest and most ****ing awesome. The art that made the series afaic.

There really is nothing out there like Berserk. Very much in a class of its own, standing on a mountaintop all by it's lonesome. There have been other series that are comparable to Kentaro Miura's work in regards to quality of art and depth of story / presentation (like Monster, Vinland Saga and Blade Of The Immortal, as well as Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)...but it really is one of a kind.

Monster's art was pretty generic and bland. Blade of the Immortal was nuts but just not that great to look at. I need to read Vinland Saga though.

Berserk though is on another level not even considering Japanese comic art. It's just one of the best drawn comic series of all time. And even as far as writing goes it's out of this world. There's so much horrendous stuff in Berserk that I couldn't recommend to most anybody with all the crazy ****, the adult attack bee rape, the rape horse, the Baphomet rape demon, the troll rapes, but I also could not replace Berserk with anything. No matter how problematic Berserk is it is simply not replaceable at all.

Monster shines more in composition depth and attention to detail in other areas. I compared it to Berserk more in regards to having a mature direction to the narrative. That being said, I feel like Urasawa's art design went into a higher level after Monster ended, which is something you can see in 20th Century Boys, Pluto and Billy Bat.

I hope there aren't people out there who actually want Berserk to be replaced or sanitized. If they think any of it is problematic, they should go study up on Robert E. Howard, Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, and Greek / Roman / Baltic mythology, influences which are omnipresent in Berserk's world building and overall direction. The story wouldn't have any real meat to it if you muted those fundamental strains from Miura's craft.

Bro don't act like Miura doesn't go for exploitation for the pure fun of it.

As far as "trapped in a game" stuff goes, Log Horizon and Overlord are both way better. You won't ever completely escape the cringe, but in actual execution those shows are miles above Sword Art Online.

I didnt even know that's what it was. I was just searching for high fantasy anime. I'll have to see if either of those are on Netflix.
