Did not know there was a thread for this sort of thing! I am not shy at all to make it known that I too, watch the wonderful world of Anime! There's some deep Anime out there. Anime that has great storytelling. My fiance thinks Anime is weird, teases me for watching it. But that's fine. I told her I watch it for the stories. Because like I said, a lot of them have great stories to them, it's not just fancy animation.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is among one of my favorites. Some morbid stuff in that one, however I love it. DBZ is an obvious one! Love me some Vegeta wise cracks. Big fan of a few of the Gundam Anime that exist, the Macross Anime as well. Currently I am watching Aldnoah.Zero, Sword Art Online, some others I don't recall the name of. But I like all sort of themed Anime. Can't really say what type is my favorite. Mecha type anime is pretty damn cool.

Have you seen DBZ abridged? they really make Vegeta into a badass in that series.

I read through the Elfen Lied manga recently, an absolutely excellent read. It has to be one of if not the most twisted and darkest stories ive ever experienced.

Too bad about the voice acting in the anime. Both the Japanese and English casts are crap. Still love it though. As over-the-top, emotionally manipulative as the scene with Lucy's puppy might be it still makes me hate people.

I marathon ed the series shortly after finishing the manga haha, yeah the english dub is really bad, I watched like 5 minutes of the first ep and I had to restart it japanese with the subs.

The japanese cast wasn't all that bad, not like distracting or anything. I wish the anime was a little longer though, 13 episodes wasnt enough the manga covered a lot of other stuff. Still a amazing series and I love the music.

Holy **** yeah man that scene was really fd up. :/

It's not as easy telling how good a sub is, but they still weren't great. I'd just as soon watch the dub and not have to read the subtitles. Japanese Bando is distractingly awful though. And there's an OVA that was released after the TV series, but is still connected that's supposed to have extra stuff. I haven't seen it yet though.

First of all, how are the new Eva movies? I definitely want to check them out, as I've loved that show since I was a teenager, but they're expensive as ****. Twenty, even thirty bucks a pop. I have the first one, and wasn't all that impressed with it. Having watched those episodes more times than I can count, the only real draw was the better animation, and seeing as how my TV isn't that big it didn't make as big a difference as it could've. The new version of the fight Ramiel, the floating octohedron, was a vast improvement though. Monster movie porn right there. Other than that though, it was just a copy of the first few episodes, but with rushed pacing due to its time constraints. I've heard that the other ones diverge from the series a lot more though.

And I feel like Elfen Lied is a lot better when you're in your teens/early twenties. After that it feels like it's angsty for the sake of being angsty. Still a fun series, but it doesn't have the intense emotional impact that it did when I first saw it. Still love Lucy as a character though. She stretches the concept of an anti-hero pretty much to its breaking point. But if you love some violence it's pretty extreme. The opening scene is quite possibly the most brutal extended sequences I've ever seen in an anime. Berserk has it beat as a manga, and Hellsing is probably more violent at times in short bursts, but that opening scene is a beast.

i saw the first one in the theater...and like you was not all that impressed....basically cutting straight from the show with a bit better animation and some of the fights and Angels were different

but the second one kicked ass....new characters...one of which (Mari) almost replaces Rei as my personal favorite character of the series and by the end it sets up for a completely new story and a good one

the third is completely new

worth checking out if your a fan of the show

I've seen pictures of her, but didn't know she was a new character. I was kind of thinking that she was a redesigned Asuka. Glad she isn't, though. Asuka doesn't need redesigning. My fav character as well. She reminds me of a more extreme version of certain members of my family who shall remain unnamed, so she was weirdly familiar to me.

You should also read the Eva manga too if you haven't. A lot of it is pretty faithful, but some of the characters are a bit different in some interesting ways. They also change some events, such as Shinji and Asuka's training to fight the angel that splits in two, that at times really improves on the original. There are a couple things I didn't like, but in some ways it's actually better than the original. They also expand on Shinji's relationship with his father too, which is a big draw for me, although I don't know that it was necessary. The ambiguous nature of their relationship was kind of perfect. Maybe a tad too ambiguous, but better than being too explained. Still, it's an interesting addition.
