Ouran Host Club ftw. When I read about it i didn't think it would be any good, but it's one of my favorites now.

Yeah so anyone seen End of Evangelion. That's just an awesome movie.

well now, i was about to make a thread for this, but good thing i searched first :D

anime i've been watching

Yu Yu Hakusho
-such an awesome show. currently on the 3rd season, and haven't gotten to a filler episode yet!

Baccano!
-anime set in the Prohibition Era about a group of mob families, as well as various other deviants and criminals. confusing as hell at first(pretty much the aim of the creator, honestly), but once it gets going, it gets GOING.

BECK Mongolian Chop Squad
-slice of life anime about the formation of a band with alot of great music thrown in. only saw the first episode, but so far it's pretty good.

Welcome to the NHK
-re-watching it, probably one of my favorite series right now. about a guy who has isolated himself for 4 YEARS until this one girl who meets him tries to get him out of the box he's in. it takes a look at alot of Japenese subculture, like Otaku, hentai and loli addiction, addicts to MMORPGS, suicide clubs, etc. really a series i love, especially as a psych student/

manga, i've been reading

20th Century Boys
-awesome mystery-drama, all i can say is to read it, READ IT NOW!!!

Eyeshield 21
-yeah, it's a manga about football, but the characters are fun and alot of the games are exciting and suspenseful. one awesome thing is how they compare players' attributes and abilities to elements of nature, animals, etc. for instance, one team is comprised of tall as hell players, and their defense is compared to that (and animated as) the wave of Posieden, from which no offensive line can get past. really a fun read.

Bakuman
-manga from the creator of Deathnote, and although it doesn't have the dark tones of its predecessor, i still really like it. it's a manga about two high school kids who're trying to write and publish a manga(irony?), and the two main characters really work off of each other personality wise. along with that, it shows you how this business runs as well as all of the work that goes into making these.

Can anybody recommend me an anime similar to Gurren Lagann?
I'm in the right mood for an ass-kicking.

Antonio 05-06-2010 11:14 AM

i've seen only the first episode of Gurren Lagaan, but with the craziness of the characters, may i suggest FLCL if you haven't seen it?

such are some of the pratfalls of Shonen battle series. i'm not really big into Shonen for some of those reasons too.

Yep, second season is still airing though, it's like a slice of life kind of affair.

Antonio 05-06-2010 02:57 PM

sounds good, i rather enjoy slice of life titles.

also, a question to everyone, what do you look for specifically in anime and manga? and is it similar or different depending on either?
