How about later stuff? For me Deadeye Dick and Galapagos really stand out.

Currently reading: Every Jonathan Lethem novel that I get hold of. Fortress of Solitude really impressed me, Chronic City was a slow burning amazement, and now I'm reading Motherless brooklyn.

Lethem reminds me of Vonnegut a little bit.
