lol I love me some Palahniuk. He might have things to say but his glorious nonsense is the real star. The main character ****ing his mother as a character building moment was my favorite moment.

I have a rec for you - Happy Mutant Baby Pills
The premise is that yuppie/junkie pharma dude finds cool anarchist ecowarrior chick who gets pregnant and wants to make a statement about the harmful nature of pharmaceutical drugs and such so she starts pouring cleaning products and drain cleaner and **** up her vag to make the baby a mutant. Can't tell you much more. |

I remember VALIS as one of his most impressive works (along with Ubik), although I don't remember much about it except that it's semi-autobiographical in a surprisingly sober self-critical way for someone who had a "religious experience".
I am finally reading (and finishing) Midnight's children by Salman Rushdie, which is my first novel by Rushdie. I am very impressed, although it is quite a large undertaking (650 pages).

I'm crazy about anything that has vaguely gnostic undercurrents, so I knew I'd like Valis. (I originally started reading it several months ago after finishing The Exegesis of Philip K. Dick, which I was obsessed with, since I too was fully unhinged at the time + eyeballs-deep in my gnosticism phase)
