Well, I just happen to have read a bit of Unfinished Tales the other day, so it's not like I'm a real expert yet. And you should definitely reread the trilogy and the Silmarillion first. Unfinished Tales isn't really a cohesive read. It's more a messy collection of bits of Tolkien's essays, notes, and unfinished narratives.

Yeah, you should definitely read it in English. Tolkien's writing style is the best part of those books and I doubt that could be replicated in another language.

Yeah, that's why I'm contemplating it (though whoever the Norwegian translator was, he or she gave a lot of charming names to people and places, I think it's probably one of the best translations ever). I don't often go for re-reads, though, so it might be awhile. But it's probably my number 1 or 2 choice for re-reads.
