I'm aware of the plagiarism and the fact that this fiction, but based off events and stories in Poland. Even so, this is a pretty disgusting read. If I had to compare it to a film that made me feel just as gross, maybe Salò. One thing that I hope isn't entirely true is how superstitious and violent small villages in Poland were in WWII. |

A young history scholar in the 1980s retraces the journey of Marco Polo, from Jerusalem to Peking. It's packed with fascinatiing travel stories, plus history, so an ideal combination to me. It's prob the third time I've read it - but hey, that's the upside to alzheimers: it always feels like the first time

I've stocked up on books to read for isolation, just in time before lockdown. Right now I'm reading Thomas Mann's Buddenbrooks, and after that it will be Twelfth Night and Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Looking forward to it. I like Buddenbrooks not quite as much as the Magic Mountain so far, but it's still great.

Fair Use - The Story of the Letter U and the Numeral 2 by Negativland An in depth look at Negativland being sued by U2 over the U2 EP and lawsuits that they faced from their own label for copyright infringement. Dives deep into the legal and ethical side of copyright law. Would love to see them do an update about YouTube, DMCA, privacy, and other new copyright issues. Read online
