My mom used to have an old Russian lady for a neighbor who claimed she was the real Anastasia and after mom explained to me what that meant it gave me a life long fascination with the idea.

Not really relevant but I was a small child and it was ****ing cool.

TBH it gave me vastly overrated expectations of what the animated Anastasia movie would be that were never met.

And just because, my mom had an Azerbaijani friend with a brother who'd been violently assaulted to the point that he couldn't walk, had trouble speaking, and need assistance to use the bathroom, and there was a small period between when his insurance kicked in to give him a live-in nurse and so I helped out and his mother who was staying with him tried to adopt me. He seemed like a cool dude too but it was kinda hard to tell with his disabilities. But we watched Princess Mononoke cause he had it in his DVD collection and his library introduced me to Kurt Vonnegut. He was actually a professor of Azerbaijani history so I'm sure at his peak he would have been a fascinating dude to talk to and I'm kinda sad I never kept in touch.

I actually do miss her even after all these years as I've almost never met someone so honestly adamant on making an intimate connection with a perfect stranger, and I know it's partly because I was helping her son and she was probably desperate for help (he was really in a bad situation where I'd have to leave the room every time he'd need to shit cause she'd come in with a jug and that's not for non-family eyes) and felt gratitude, but I think if I'd just been a rando at a family dinner she'd have treated me exactly the same. Some people are just good in a way I'll never understand.
