I tried using it as my new avatar, but it'll only let me use an 80 x 80 picture at the moment. I will ask a mod to sort it for me. |

Present Reading: Siva Vaidhyanathan's The Anarchist in the Library.
This was published in 2004 as a follow-up to his first book, Copyrights and Copywrongs: The Rise of Intellectual Property and How It Threatens Creativity. When I first purchased the book two years ago, I read it only superficially. But these last few years have really awoken within me a tremendous interest in digital media ethics and copyright reform and reading the introduction instantly revealed that this text was worth a proper read with newly-opened eyes. The book begins with the international lawsuits surrounding Dmitry Sklyarov's exposing of the incredibly weak protection of Adobe's ebook decryption software, (which cost $99 in 2001). From the intro: Quote:

Not currently reading it, but will be soon. OMG. Dave Mustaine's autobiography. Aside from all the awesome inside information on one of my all-time favorite bands, metal scenes, and time periods in metal, I now get to hear all the narcissistic, presumably revisionist rantings from the national treasure that is Dave Mustaine that I could ever want. I only hope that his ghost writer didn't do too good a job making him look like not a douche. OMG WHAT'S HE GONNA SAY ABOUT METALLICA... that he hasn't already gone on about at length for the past thirty years... **** IT YOU KNOW HE'S STILL GOT **** TO HURL!!!
I'm highly tempted to just try to find a pirated internet copy, but god damn it I want this on my bookshelf.

I'm a fanboy. If Captain Beefheart had gone out in a hail of gunfire and raped hookers would you still not be interested in the parts of his book about the band?

There's a lot of Beefheart drama that I eat up (#teamdrumbo), but yes.
