I picked up a complete compilation of Poe's work from Barnes & Noble for like $10. As much as I like horror, I never really read any of his works outside of what I had to read in high school and I feel like a complete cunt for ignoring him because holy shit his stuff is great. I've started with "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Cask of Amontillado" because they're ones I'm already familiar with, and I think the latter might have the best line ever when Fortunado is like "For the love of God Montresor!" as he's being entombed and Montresor's only response is "Yes, for the love of God" It sends fucking chills down my spine. |
