^Glad I'm not the only person who thought Humbert was a d-bag. Nabakov does write beautifully, but in this case it didn't make the character seem less...blech.

He was just awful, the way he'd talk about Dolores' mother and ****. Like damn dude, you're not so hot yourself with your paedophile ass...

^^^

I actually never finished that book. It just kinda creeped me out and, as interesting and compelling a book as it was, just stopped being fun after a while. It's just hard to read a book where the narrator is a sociopath with no real personality to latch onto. I had the same problem with Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates.

Oh I loved Zombie, but JCO is one of my favourite authors anyway. Her other books are a lot better though, like Blonde or the Grave Diggers Daughter.

reading this right now and I love it

Currently reading Harry Potter, the 2nd book. After avoiding them for many years, I thought it was time to check out this series, and even though it's nowhere near the awesomeness of my favourite books, it's quite entertaining nonetheless. I'll probably take a break from it after finishing the 2nd book, though.

I don't think I've actually finished one of her books, but I definitely need to pick Blonde back up. That's a nice headfuck of a book. And I won't deny enjoying the scene where Marilyn Monroe gets DP'ed.

I kept thinking for a good portion "c'mon Humbert, do the right thing!" but after a while, I realized that the novel wouldn't have had the same effect if it wasn't the way it is. On the contrary, my ill intent towards Humbert began to subside as I was finishing the novel. Strange.....

Eye of the World - Robert Jordan

I'm really hoping I can actually get into this book. I've been wanting to get into the Wheel of Time series for years now, but time-and-time again I just can't get into it.
