Reading the third book in the Song of Fire and Ice series.

I just finished reading that one last week. A lot happened in the third book, so I won't spoil anything. I will say that I was quite pleased when I saw that my copy of the fourth book is only 1254 pages rather than 1697 that was the third.

I read it on my version on my iPad with iBooks and the copy I grabbed has empty pages between each chapter and then usually the last 100 or so pages are dedicated to explaining the various houses of the land to give the reader some more info. There's also the maps at the beginning of the book, so in total it probably comes up to 1450 or so. The only reason I can think for the publisher splitting the book in two is to make more money, or they were afraid that fans of the fantasy genre would be turned off by large novels, which leads me to believe the publishers are complete idiots.

I have a little stack classics I got out of the library recently which I'm trying to work my way through before they're due back. After Torilla Flat the remaining books are Gulliver's Travels, Dracula and Treasure Island. I'm debating which to read first. |
I also have a stack of classics...'
but I also have a stack of superhero novels...and my nerddom tells me that I should read the latter first. |

High hopes for this, because Colin Meloy. I already know I love his verbose storytelling, so hopefully it translates smoothly into a series. And just finished: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...OfTheWorld.jpg Which was a great deal of fun. A lot of deus ex machina in the plot, but so does every fantasy series suffer from it. |
Just finished "A Clockwork Orange". Now I'm going through Modern Drummer Magazines again.

so i just finished "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo"....the book was quite good for what it is....but in no way anything special and i just don't understand they hype....still for what it is....a thilling murder mystery it was very enjoyable....look forward to reading the next book in the series in a couple of months
