Wow, that's pretty crazy. Vonnegut definitely has one of the easiest styles to read. That's one of the things that makes him so great. :\

I should've elaborated more. I read Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse-Five before I read that, loved them, and thought they were very, very easy to get through. This one has a different style, more descriptive. Now, I'm not necessarily opposed to that, but this book felt very dry and mechanical, kind of a chore to get through. I thought the story itself was pretty cool, and I might try and pick it up again sometime. But to me, this book is miles below the other two I read. I didn't care about the characters at all.

I do actually agree with you that Player Piano is written in a different style from his other books. Since it was his first I always view this as a case of him not having found his voice yet. I still thought it was a good book though, albeit far from his best.

How about later stuff? For me Deadeye Dick and Galapagos really stand out.

Currently reading: Every Jonathan Lethem novel that I get hold of. Fortress of Solitude really impressed me, Chronic City was a slow burning amazement, and now I'm reading Motherless brooklyn.

Lethem reminds me of Vonnegut a little bit.

I like both of those. I don't remember Galapagos very well though.

I think my favorite by him is Slapstick.

You're kidding. I thought that was easily his worst. To each their own I guess.

Nope, not kidding. I love that book. Bluebeard, on the other hand, I could do without.
