Steampunk setting with zombies that has the approval stamp of Warren Ellis... yeah OK I think I can give that a shot.

Palanchuck? That's a bit of a portmanteau there, and I like it!

I'm having another crack at A Tale of Two Cities. I didn't get very far the first time because I got sidetracked with work. I'm thoroughly enjoying it now though. Here's a quote I like:

A wonderful fact to reflect upon, that every human creature is constituted to be that profound secret and mystery to every other. A solemn consideration, when I enter a great city by night, that every one of those darkly clustered houses encloses its own secret; that every room in every one of them encloses its own secret; that every breathing heart in the hundreds of thousands of breasts there, is, in some of its imaginings, a secret to the heart nearest it!

Ranges from ethereal to fastidious. I'm also a little bothered by the fact that he doesn't seem to perceive anyone else in his family apart from his mother. 50 pages in tho.

Have you read Lolita? I just started it, I've never read anything else of his.

Yup, a few years back but I still like to remember it as the most beautifully written book I've ever read. I've also read Pale fire which is genius but also a bit of a difficult read and Pnin which wasn't very good.
