Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
I'm only 200 pages in but it's really good so far. It's a little confusing, but still a classic that I think everyone should try.

my introduction to Palahniuk.
That was the book that kind of killed Palahniuk for me. Don't judge him too harshly by it, he's written much better books.
