As far as building atmopshere and setting goes, Meyrink has few peers. The Golem is a slow burner, it get's to the point where you begin tussling with your attention span. However, the creation of Prague as this claustrophobic, errie and fantastical underworld brings the whole story to life. |

Started reading Lullaby last night. I didn't intend to read two Chuck Palahniuk books back to back, but you can't always tell when the library will have your books ready.

Finished the Turgenev and Neuromancer. The first is very legible but hasn't really survived the test of time to tell the truth. Doesn't really give me incentive to search out more of his stuff. Neuromancer was an incredibly arduous experience, all style over substance.
Think I'll be sticking to some short stories for a while. Ursula Le Guin's Day before the revolution sounds pretty good for a start.

I'm not sure how many times I've read this book now, there were a number of them when I'd just leave it in the bathroom and read a chapter every time I took a shit. I first picked this up when I was either 15 and have pretty much read it at least twice a year since then. Probably the book with the largest impact on my life, however I'm still debating if that's a good thing or not. |

I've said the same thing, but I always figured it was a good thing. I've overanalysed the book I think, I actually got into a really long discussion attaching the main characters to seven deadlies.
