I'm finally close to wrapping up Chuck Palahniuk's Choke. I haven't had as much reading time with this one as others since summer that I was finishing on an almost weekly basis. I remember watching the movie when it first came out on DVD and being pretty disappointed. But I thought I'd give the book a chance anyway. I think initially I wasn't that into it, especially when the visuals from the movie started coming back to me. I'd really forgotten all about it by the time I started reading this. But as it's wrapping up, I think I really enjoyed it as a whole. Definitely much better than the movie, which could have been done so much better. There are so many truths and good quotes in here, at least to me. I don't consider myself well-read though, and I'm quite the introvert, so take that for what it's worth. :p: |
Starting.. :D

As far as building atmopshere and setting goes, Meyrink has few peers. The Golem is a slow burner, it get's to the point where you begin tussling with your attention span. However, the creation of Prague as this claustrophobic, errie and fantastical underworld brings the whole story to life. |

Been awhile since I've read it, just getting myself stoked for when The Skag Boys comes out. |
Started reading Lullaby last night. I didn't intend to read two Chuck Palahniuk books back to back, but you can't always tell when the library will have your books ready.

finished the Gogol i was reading (kinda dry, to tell the truth). i prefer Dostoevsky, anyways. |
Finished the Turgenev and Neuromancer. The first is very legible but hasn't really survived the test of time to tell the truth. Doesn't really give me incentive to search out more of his stuff. Neuromancer was an incredibly arduous experience, all style over substance.
Think I'll be sticking to some short stories for a while. Ursula Le Guin's Day before the revolution sounds pretty good for a start. |

I'm not sure how many times I've read this book now, there were a number of them when I'd just leave it in the bathroom and read a chapter every time I took a shit. I first picked this up when I was either 15 and have pretty much read it at least twice a year since then. Probably the book with the largest impact on my life, however I'm still debating if that's a good thing or not. |
