Just finished reading Mary Shelly's Frankenstein for school....by far one of the most depressing books ive EVER read. I literally had to stop reading so as to prevent the desire to throw myself off a cliff from asserting itself beyond control.
How in the world did she know the extent of such absolute misery when she was only 18!! i feel more sorry for the author than anything.

I'm glad I came through with my promise of waiting till I saw the movie to read this. While it is one of the more faithful adaptations I would have thought less of the movie if I already knew that the differences were ahead of time. This will require a few more readings to fully understand and appreciate the symbolism and other themes but overall it was quite an enjoyable read. |

I love that one! Pretty abstract for a story, but still very nice.

I had to force myself to read it and I think I only got through 16 of the 18 stories. Absolute garbage, I don't recommend you take it from the Library. *shameless self-promo: here's my blogged review.

Just about to embark on Crime and Punishment. About time I read a few of the classics, so I'm going to have a stab at Dostoyevsky. The creepy man who tried to groom me at the library assured me I was "in for a treat", in between trying to patronise me because he's read a lot more books than me. Next time I'm asked whether I've read any Russian literature before, I'm going to tell him yes, but only in their original Russian prose, but I could only find this poxy translation in this crummy library. Anyway, I digress.

I need to come in this thread more often for some book recommendations. Might look into this Philip K. D1ck guy.
I finished Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions earlier this week, and started Post Office by Charles Bukowski. Any recommendations on where to go next with Bukowski? This is my first one, and I'll probably finish it this weekend.

You're right though. Not worthy of a recommendation. But I can't curse time spent reading, even if it is trash. BTW, good review. I was glad to see you hated it without being pretentious. Seriously. It's a difficult feat. |
