You know, the serial killer aspect held me through some of the architectural low points but the thing I love about historical non-fiction is that once the story's been set up, they go out with an explosion.

The most mind blowing thing about it was how much debuted at the fair and how much is still so prevalent in today's society.

I love picking up tidbits about how life was then, and how things were so much different in both good and bad ways.

I loved the book.

Pretty, pretty fucked up, my friend.
It’s about the sort of people you only want to know through fiction. And even then you feel kind of guilty…
Hope you have a dark sense of humor.

So i just finished this and what a piece of **** it was. I'd love to hear from someone who enjoyed it because I found almost nothing redeeming about it.

I had to force myself to read it and I think I only got through 16 of the 18 stories.

Absolute garbage, I don't recommend you take it from the Library.

*shameless self-promo: here's my blogged review.

Just about to embark on Crime and Punishment. About time I read a few of the classics, so I'm going to have a stab at Dostoyevsky. The creepy man who tried to groom me at the library assured me I was "in for a treat", in between trying to patronise me because he's read a lot more books than me. Next time I'm asked whether I've read any Russian literature before, I'm going to tell him yes, but only in their original Russian prose, but I could only find this poxy translation in this crummy library. Anyway, I digress.

I wouldn't say I enjoyed it. It was more or less a train accident. And I'm in Kentucky, so it was kind of like peeking into the lives of people I see everyday at Walmart. I did keep hoping the thing would come full circle.

You're right though. Not worthy of a recommendation. But I can't curse time spent reading, even if it is trash.

BTW, good review. I was glad to see you hated it without being pretentious. Seriously. It's a difficult feat.

Yeah, I saw a lecture he gave with Cornel West. Very funny man, and incredibly charismatic. I'll have to pick up some of his books one day...
