Apparently this is a meme, another blogger tagged me. Now I have to tag you bastards. Fits the bill for this thread though...
1, Pick up the nearest book. 2, Open to page 123. 3, Find the fifth sentence. 4, Post the next three sentences. 5, Tag a few people. |
Oh god that's too good to pass up
"In some weird quantum way, the cat is alive and dead at the same time. The Schrodinger's Cat paradox has inspired much confusion. Stephen Hawking got so tired of this paradox that he would often say (in paraphrase of Joseph Goebbels), 'Whenever I hear the words 'Schrodinger's cat,' I reach for my gun.'" from the other book I'm reading: "Weishaupt's 'illumination' & Voltaire's 'enlightenment': from the Latin 'lux' meaning light. Christianity all in 3s (Trinity, etc.) Buddhism in 4s. Illuminism in 5s." |
I'm currently reading Heart of Darkness and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, both for the first time.
|
Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice.

Also starting Essential Chomsky, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, and the Mammoth Book of Cover-Ups. |
Just finished reading this:
http://www.littlebrown.co.uk/assets/...0316027878.jpg The singer from Eels tells his story. He's had the most f*cked up, often tragic and always very interesting life, but its inspiring that throughout he's just kept going, life has its ups and downs. Highly recommended. |

I don't like reading books, I just get bored and get trouble concentrating. Though I read a really good one right now, "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time" (long title, love it) by Mark Haddon if I remember correctly. I like reading in english (swede). Favourite book, all times.

The Heroin Diaries by Nikki Sixx. Great read! |
|
"The Claiming Of Sleeping Beauty" Anne Rice.
Just finished that one, it was... not what i was expecting. It actually wasn't that good, though it is one of those _classic_ books that 'you must read before you die'. Stephen King is always good as a rule, am reading "Duma Key" at the moment |
'Breakfast of Champions' by Kurt Vonnegut
Everyone must read this book. |
'Bluebeard' by Kurt Vonnegut, actually. Huh.

i've been reading books on social psychology...not a novel or anything..but they're pretty interesting. one of them was called "influence: science and practice" by robert cialdini and it's a very helpful book for anyone. it talks about tactics that people (especially salespeople) use to convince people to do things (i.e., purchase something). the book also has sections of each chapter that teaches you how to defend yourself against these tactics. i think it's a useful book.. a fast read also..and pretty entertaining.

I still have never finished 'Naked Lunch' if I'm honest. I'm all for surrealism but W.B's cut-and-paste approach to the structure kind of irritated me. You can't argue with his wielding of the language though. I know the narrative can reputedly be read in any order, has anyone tried this? But it's time I gave it another go.
Currently reading: James Joyce - 'Portait Of the Artist As A Young Man' - my first Joyce since school, really compelling William K.Massie - 'Dreadnought: Britain, Germany and the Coming of the Great War' - a real monster but just narrative history at it's best. Now finally I can talk to my dad about Otto Von Bismarck and the Franco-Prussian War and make him proud of his underachieving son. |
A Clockwork Orange for the 5th time, nadsat has become a second language for me.
|
George Orwell's "1984", kind of inspired to read it again considering things happening in our world, especially concerning our internet rights being under siege at the moment. Big Brother is definitely watching...
