Lord Of The Rings does have some trace of truth in it though. Theres grass in it, theres grass in the real world. Therefore according to your logic Lord Of The Rings is based on a true story.

So if I make a movie where a man named John is shot and killed, and the person who was killed come backs to life and hunts down all who played a part in his death, and then proceeds to escort them to hell, where they meet up with Satan, and have lunch, I could say it was based on a true story because it just so happened that a man named John has infact been murdered at some point in the earths history?

There is no truth to the movie whatsoever.

If a woman is running in a park and falls they could make a whole big exageration about it in a movie about it and how a murderer was chasing her, etc. And still say "based on a true story" because it was based and had some truth in it.

So what you're saying is that every movie that has ever been made, could be advertised as based on a true story? That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life. The only reason that you are sticking to your guns that the movie is based on a true story is because it is one of the most common movie conceptions. When Amityville is advertised, they conveintly leave out the part where the woman claims that she made every bit of it up. Because a murder happens, you cannot spin an entire movie and add demons, possessed houses, paranormal happenings, and anything else you want and claim it is a true story. The woman concocted a big story about demons, and told EVERYONE that the story was true. Demons and all. After she made her money, she completely admitted that every thing she said happen while she was in the house, was absolutely false. Since the movie is about what happened while she was in that house, the fact that she admitted every bit of it was false, means the movie is ficticious, just like the book that started it all. Do not go on and reply that just because a murder did in fact happen there, the movie is true, or even BASED on truth. The movie doesn't focus on the murders. The movie is about a possessed house, not about a man who slaughtered his family.

Fine, you can claim its true. But the person who wrote the story said it wasn't. Who's right? The people who advertise the movie? Or the people who wrote the book?

The movie is about The Lutzes, the family that lived in the Amityville House and claimed they were continually harrassed by demons, swarms of insects, and that a preist called to exorzice the house was reppelled by evil spirits. The movie isnt about a man who killed his family.

A Nice Little Reference

You can deny it all you want. Hopefully you are smart enough to realize that a movie has a pinch of truth (though this one really doesn't) Doesn't make it true, or even based on truth. I guess this means Star Wars is also based on a true story. Do you not see why that sounds ridiculous?
