Trisha Yearwood - XXX's and OOO's (American Girl) - Lyrics Meaning
The song XXX's and OOO's is on the 1994 album, "Thinkin' About You".
The song starts with the singer struggling as a housewife and working mother. Juggling all of her duties at home, going to work, bringing home money and then also having time to keep her relationship strong are common issues in America today, thus the alternate title, "American Girl".
In the chorus, we learn that the singer used to take more time for herself and remembers her mother wearing heels and pearls. Heels and pearls aren't practical for a working mother who is "trying to make it in her daddy's world". In her parents' time, it was traditional that that father was able to support the family on his income alone. That has not become the norm.
The next verse suggests that the singer is now single, possible because the stresses of life have contributed to the demise of her marriage, which, unfortunately is also not that uncommon anymore. She has to do things like fix the sink and mow the yard but she just isn't feeling like doing those things. In the last verse, she resigns herself to being content with wine, religion, and music.
