Malcom Mclarren - Buffalo Gals - Lyrics Meaning
Buffalo Gals by Malcom Mclarren was released in 1982 and reached number 9 in the UK charts.
This is originally an old song which dates back to the early 1800's and the Buffalo in the song refers to the city of Buffalo in New York.
The lyrics were changed slightly by Malcom Mclarren from "Buffalo gals, won't you come out tonight" to "Buffalo gals, around the outside." which was more fitting to the latest style of this song.
He got the initial idea for the style of this song after attending a block party in New York featuring Afrika Bambaataa and Zulu Nation.
This style is called scratching and involves replacing the power cable of a guitar with the needle of a record player, when this needle is moved rapidly across record it gives out the scratching effect.
The lyrics to the song basically describe a group of people dancing together and girl being the main focus of attention.
All of the boys in the group find her especially attractive but they are under the impression that she is just being friendly although any one of them would love the chance to get to know her better.
