Kid Rock - All Summer Long - Lyrics Meaning

This country crossover was the third single from Kid Rock's ninth studio album, "Rock N Roll Jesus." Record producer and DJ Mike E. Clark suggested a mash-up of two songs for the single: "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd and "Werewolves of London" by Warren Zevon.

The album was slated for release in October of 2007, and Kid Rock's record company wanted "All Summer Long" to be the first single released. Kid Rock convinced them to hold off until the next summer to release the song, even though it would mean a long lapse between the album's release and the single. It was a successful tactic. Radio stations picked up the song and by the summer of 2008, the album had sold 1.3 million copies.

In this up-tempo Southern rock song, the narrator reminisces about a memorable teen romance that occurs in Northern Michigan during the summer of 1989. They might be in Michigan, but it's "Sweet Home Alabama" that they're singing "all summer long."

And, we were trying different things we were smoking funny things

Making love out by the lake to our favorite song

Sipping whisky out the bottle not thinking `bout tomorrow

Singing Sweet Home Alabama all summer long
