"Let Her Cry" was the second single from their popular album, "Cracked Rear Window." Released in 1995, it reached the #2 position on the American Billboard Top 40 Mainstream chart and #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 1996 it received a Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

The song's story revolves around an understanding man who has fallen in love with a woman who is a reckless alcoholic. As hard as he tries to save her, as well as their relationship, the burden of it is getting more difficult to bear, and he is starting to realize how senseless it probably is to try and remain together as a couple.

Hootie and the Blowfish lead singer Darius Rucker said he was inspired to write the lyrics after an experience he had in a past relationship where he was the irresponsible one, with his girlfriend being the one who had to suffer through it while trying to keep things together. For the song, however, he decided to reverse the rolls.
