Avril Lavigne - I'm With You - Lyrics Meaning
"I'm With You" was the third single from Punk Princess Avril Lavigne's 2002 debut album, "Let Go." It reached #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 that year.
"I'm standing on a bridge
I'm waiting in the dark
I thought that you'd be here by now..."
Lavigne said she sat down at her piano and wrote this bleak song on a day when she was feeling down and depressed. As she described it in an interview with MTV.com: "Kind of like, where's my guy? One of those days."
While Lavigne's published explanation might seem somewhat vague, there are enough other folks out there offering up interpretations of their own that it should be a relatively easy task for you to choose the one you feel is most probable.
Some feel that "I'm With You" is about a scared and lonely young woman outside on a cold, dark night and waiting for her lover to come take her home. Others speculate that the song is about a young girl preparing to take her own life. One fan claimed that the song helped her beat her own meth addiction.
Regardless of how it is interpreted, the song has struck a personal chord in the lives of many.
