It's funny/creepy when I think back to when I was a teenager with AOL and **** and how willing adults were to talk to me. How the **** is it appropriate online when it would be weird af irl? |

Well duh, because they're people too, and maybe they want to talk to older folks, and as long as you keep it to music recs and maybe movies or TV or whatever, I reckon that's fine. I thought Eleanor was great; for a 14 (now 15)-year old you'd never have known she was so young, the way she spoke. It was only OH who started making it all "daddys little girl" and then it got creepy. You shouldn't be afraid/unwilling to talk to someone just because they're forty years younger than you, or whatever. You're the adult (supposed to be anyway) and should know what's acceptable and what isn't.

Are you seriously telling me that if a child came up to you you would walk away? Is it that you hate children, or are you so terrified of someone thinking the wrong thing that you won't take the risk? Don't you think children should be able to approach adults and vice versa without there being an immediate suspicion of sexually inappropriate motives? You wouldn't like to share your experience of music, politics, literature, whatever, with a younger person in the hope of enhancing their life a little? You'd be too scared, or just wouldn't care? Hanging offence, that. Let's not forget, Eleanor made a thread asking for help. It's not like one of us cornered her and started throwing unsolicited advice her way. What should we have done? Ignored her? Told her she was too young and we couldn't speak to her? For ****'s sake.
