Congratulations Marie! A business trip can be exciting and it's also an indication of how you are regarded in your job.
I remember working in a London office once, and some of my colleagues were being sent to Iraq and Saudi Arabia to coordinate construction projects. And me? I was sent to Birmingham and Stratford-on-Avon.

If you want some tips about life in New York, I recommend you watch Midnight Cowboy and Taxi Driver if you haven't seen them yet. That way you'll know what to expect :

Actually, Marie, New Yorkers are quite nice. They do have a blunt way of saying things when they think they've been crossed (getting cut off in traffic, somebody doing something stupid, etc). They don't mess around but you have to love them for their brutal honesty. They are some of the most real people I know.

The stereotypes about NYC are from the pre-9/11 era. Al Qaeda effectively bombed all of the "attitude" out of that city. Now it's full of the fakest people in the country just like LA.

I was last in New York in 2000, before 9/11. I was working inventory with a local crew from Brooklyn. The basic attitude then was don't let anyone try to intimidate you. I didn't really see it as a stereotype. I just really enjoyed working with that bunch.
