- no more Confederate flags at Nascar races = woke
- Washington 'Redskins' finally change their name = woke
- TV commercials showing bi-racial or homosexual couples = woke
- Confederate statues removed = woke
- Don't used the word retarded = woke

And to some, all of this is bad somehow??

Well, there’s nothing difficult when it comes to a definition: it’s always been just a past participle of “wake” or “to be awake” or aware. …and black folk have known that and have used that term in their vernacular longer than any of us here have been alive. I remember it in the 70s and it goes back well before the middle of the last century. It’s just that now, insecure white people feel especially emboldened in trying to boost their supposed superiority by using black colloquialisms as a “cultural” club only to have it come back at them and hit them in the face.

Laughing at their ridiculousness and going about your day while staying woke (or, alternatively, “mindful” as “Mindy” would say) of what’s going on.
Black folks, especially, know how important that is. That’s the real “talk” that parents have with their young, growing children.
