Can you believe we used to have to get up out of our chairs to change the channel, raise or lower the volume, or, frequently, to indulge in that quaint and long-forgotten rite of banging the **** out of the top of the telly to get the reception back?

You should see what my step-father does to the laptop when it doesn't boot up fast enough

And now we don't even have knobs, buttons, or doodads on our TVs. It's communism, I say!

I still do have to get up to do that (and actually, it's just channels I have to change, because the volume is forever stuck and I can't change it). My TV is a piece of hot garbage. I'm never getting a SmartTV again, with all of its stupid useless bloatware and endless updates and sleepy annoying UIs.

See that's the thing, I purposely spent more on a Samsung b/c I thought I'd avoid this kind of **** - how long have you had yours and what brand is it? I think I had mine for around 4 years before it basically **** the bed.

I have a Sharp Acquos or something. It doesn't give me any trouble other than occasionally the remote will refuse to work (maybe once a month or less) then I have to unplug it (as the remote won't even switch it off) plug it back in and all is fine. It's not a Smart TV though: it can't even do long division. It has no internet capability, unless used as a monitor for my computer. It does have USB slots which are neat, other than that it's pretty basic. It's lasted me about 5 years now I think, and I have another in the box waiting if/when this waves bye bye some fine morning.

That's the one. well, that's a 46 in. Mine is 40 I think and it doesn't have that centre stand but rests on two kind of runners, one either side. Other than that, pretty close.

yeah the other one down there
