Probably a product of the many absolutist teaching methods you grew up with.

Like jwb.. you understand that I'm not referring to sex ed as it currently exists, right?

@Frownland

Maybe if they give out condoms in school or something...
Instead of being pithy tell me how you think it would change it

maybe I don't have the concept of what it would look like that would make the real difference.. could just be blind cynicism on my part.. I get your point about girls being naive and buying crap excuses from guys I just don't know that you can teach them that in school effectively cause peer pressure usually wins over what the teacher says... In my experience.

I just don't see how it wouldn't be the One True Solution for teenage pregnancy because people got pregnant at my high school.

I don't even know why I'm arguing this point tbh

I agree with sex ed being better. I just remember being a kid and to me it made no difference what the teachers said. I don't know what they could've possibly said to me that would make me unwilling to have unsafe sex if the opportunity arose and I didn't have access to protection.

Great example of how more than one thing can simultaneously contribute to a dilemma such as teenage pregnancy without canceling themselves out.

I don't know what it's currently like for guys, but all the ideas I have for improving it involve deeper discussions on (at a certain age) pleasure and masturbation and consent and just candid conversations about whatever questions come up. This would also involve revolutionizing the porn industry and removing all abstinence only curriculum from being distributed. The goal being to demystify sex - if it weren't whispered about so often behind closed doors it wouldn't have that "I want what I'm not allowed to have" effect. Idk though, I have big ideas but no real plans for execution. This would all also rely on major widespread changes in public education and early childhood education and housing and the homeless epidemic and immigration, etc.

Well, in science there's always the possibility that something we thought we knew gets overturned. You can say the same thing with the bird example. What makes you more comfortable with that than the same concept being applied to human beings?
I’m not. I do think it’s a false equivalency though.

No you can’t.

It holds up great and is a fantastic read. Some of it doesn’t apply to insect behavior though so there was more to the story.

I just want to say I don’t have a human exceptionalist attitude about this.

Now that we’ve mapped the human genome when there’s a claim of sexual preferences and proclivities the next step is isolating the gene. Then a geneticist can tell us when on our evolutionary path did that mutation take place. Until then it’s a big maybe.
