According to the lovely news media, Trump has been taking it as a "preventative" measure against the virus for the past week. Apparently it hasn't killed him.

I wonder if light bulbs are turning on above the heads of homeopathy lobbyists right now?

All states will be partially reopened by Memorial Day weekend but only 16 states recorded downward case trends

Quote:
As of Tuesday, only 16 states have seen a downward trend of cases over the past seven days, according to an analysis based on data from Johns Hopkins University.
So far, more than 1,508,800 Americans have been infected and at least 90,369 have died, according to Johns Hopkins.
Pictures from some parts of the country are now reminiscent of pre-pandemic times, with Americans venturing out to parks to soak in the spring sunshine, visiting beaches on both coasts of the country and gathering -- often unmasked -- in open bars and restaurants.
The virus is going to boogie down hard on Memorial Day.

^ Are you back at work, OH? Be careful.

There are lots of ideas around about how to stay safe, but one suggestion that I'm considering is taking a vit D supplement:-

This article from the BBC suggests it doesn't do much to help:-

https://www.bbc.com/news/health-52371688

But this guy is convinced that it's beneficial:-

Either in this vid or one of his others, he explains that he's taking a daily supplement of 50 micrograms (=2000 International Units) *

Has anyone else been convinced that vit D supplements can reduce (i) your risk of infection and (ii) the severity of an infection, which is what Dr Cambell is saying?

* Just watched another youtube doctor who recommends half that dosage, "every day or every other day",(which would then be a quarter of that dosage) just in case you end up with excess vit D in your body.

DeSantis administration fires COVID-19 data guru for ‘insubordination’

Quote:
Even before the removal of Jones, questions about Florida’s COVID-19 data had persisted. The Herald and a consortium of other news outlets sued the state over its initial refusal to release data about COVID-19 cases and deaths in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities. The state finally began releasing data about cases in long-term care data in late April. And the state is inconsistent in how it chooses to represent key data points. Hospitalization data includes the aggregate number of people who have been hospitalized, not current numbers of people hospitalized, but the state replaced the overall case count with the number of “new positive COVID-19 cases.” Gov. DeSantis who has touted the state’s low positive rate of cases as a justification for reopening the state, initially spoke of the positive rate among all cases, but has more recently focused on the percentage of positives among new cases, which has tended to be lower.

This son of a bitch murderer is exactly like Trump. A good woman tries to provide honest information to the public and he fires her for it. Florida has been manipulating and trying to hide the grim facts of what has been going on here.

He has lied and cheated the public out of unemployment benefits. They have stolen money earmarked for unemployment disobeying the federal law via the stimulus package. They refuse to pay unemployment to force people into death traps. And he’s lying and covering up data about infection rates especially among the elderly. The numbers are clearly being manipulated to ensure that Trump win’s Florida that is a crucial swing state often won by around 1% of the vote and has notoriously corrupt elections including the “hanging chads” incident that cost Al Gore his rightful election.

**** DeSantis. He’s a goddamn murderer and I am NOT being hyperbolic.

Virus Raged at City Jails, Leaving 1,259 Guards Infected and 6 Dead
Correction officers in New York City live in fear of bringing the virus home to families. They say the city has not protected them

Quote:
A struggle to get tested

As the virus swept through the jails in March, one of the biggest complaints among officers was the lack of testing. Several said they sought tests at state-run sites, but, like many people, they were turned away.

One veteran officer said he lost his sense of taste and smell in mid-March, then got a slight fever. He went to a drive-though testing site, but the medical staff, seeking to conserve tests, told him to quarantine for 14 days instead.

Without a positive test result, he was required by his superiors to continue to work, and his symptoms worsened, he said. He had a cough and was sneezing. He did not have a mask, he said, or access to hand sanitizer.

I'm trying to curb the number of Trump-hate posts I burden MB with, but this one is short and eloquently put:-

Also genuinely curious about vit D supplements: is anyone taking any or do you think it's not worth while? TBH, I've seen enough positives on the internet that I'll prob buy some today.

Ive also seen it pop up a lot

The science is a long way off from any kind of verification but as long as you don’t go overboard and take way more than the recommended dietary allowance of it why not.

I’m kind of a fan of Dr. Steven Novella (you can google him) and on his podcast he was explaining why commonsense deductions as simple as I’m not getting enough vitamin d so taking a supplement is a good idea often does NOT pan out like you would expect when they study it. I personally will probably buy vitamin d next time I have to go to the store. That said, getting some sun (if you can safely social distance) and eating foods rich in vitamin d is probably better but I’m willing to do both because it’s really low risk afaik.

I’ve been taking vitamin c just because I’ve heard it’s good for your immune system and I’ve never even considered checking the science.

^ Thanks, OH !
Apart from the mention of Dr. Novella (who I'll take a look at) what you've said is almost word for word what I've been thinking.
