You know for someone who just supposedly dodged a bunch of taxes you sure do need to seek attention on a small internet forum a lot.

To me, this is in many ways the scariest category to fall into. Who amongst us could endure or afford five months in an ICU?

Twelve people across Britain have now died after catching the Omicron variant of Covid.

The latest figures from the UK Health Security Agency also show 104 people have been admitted to hospital with confirmed Omicron infections.

Some 12,133 new confirmed cases of Omicron were also reported on Sunday, bringing the total across the UK to 37,101.

However, these figures are likely to be undercounting the true numbers, as not all Covid cases are checked in labs to ascertain if they are the Omicron variant or not.

Experts on the government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) have warned there are probably already hundreds of thousands of new Omicron infections every day in England alone.
Rostasi's stats paint a truer picture of the situation than yours, Anteater. By simultaneously focusing on and reducing the number of deaths, you are making a couple of mistakes that are common among anti-vaxers:-
i) ignoring the idea Frownland just mentioned about free-circulating covid cooking up its next mutation.
ii) ignoring all the collateral health problems that are caused because ICU beds are full of covid patients. The shear number of hospitalizations that happen all at once during a covid surge guarantees that there will be preventable deaths from other causes that won't register in your dismissive "one death" total.

Some more "meaningless statistics" …

Quote:
It's not a very good picture at all. Cases are rising exponentially. Yesterday, 83,000 official cases, but government advisers say the real number is in the hundreds of thousands. They also say that if the government doesn't put in tougher COVID restrictions very soon, cases could go up anywhere to 600,000 a day to 2 million a day. And the situation here, I think, is seen as so bad that even France and Germany, they're actually now banning British tourists.

The figures in that table are alarming, with all their plus signs. If only my bank statements looked like that!

This is a hard to imagine infection rate. Even if the percentage of hospitalisations is low, it's likely to totally swamp health services. I suspect that the rest of the world won't be far behind, so we'd better get ready to hear this from our doctors, "Got covid? You're on your own, pal. Try calling again in a month if you're still alive."

I can attest to the collateral. I went to the ER with heart problems and I waited four hours until I could get a room. I could have dropped dead in the waiting room and no one would have noticed.

PS- They automatically give you a Covid test when you're in the hospital now. You'll be glad to know I don't have Covid (or at least I didn't yesterday)

Yes, that kind of restricted access to health care is happening across all the countries that once had the luxury of expecting better.
I hope your heart is ok, and congrats on the negative test. It must be good to know that you're all clear, until you next come within 3 feet of another person.

My own health-care experience: with my job I have the right to a free anual check-up. Right now, though, the coverage is for emergencies and covid only.
