I'm not "reading [anything] into them." I'm just reading them as they're presented.
If, for instance, someone uses the word "parsec" as meaning a unit of time
(like I've heard was the case in Star Wars), I'm not "reading [anything] into"
it if I counter that it's wrong.

Ah but you see the Kessel Run takes place amongst a series of black holes that make time an unreliable method of measuring how short a run is, so you use a method of distance, parsecs, to measure efficiency (i.e. the least distance possible to maneuver around black holes without dying).

Total bollocks. Just a weak excuse for a man who should have known the difference between time and distance. I suppose at least he didn't say "it took the ship three light years to get there". Should have just admitted **** it, I got it wrong. Which he absolutely did. Thought nobody would realise. We did, George. We did. And your explanation is as Trumpian as they come.

George Lucas says, in some blu-ray commentary, that ships in the Star Wars universe calculate hyperspace routes that turn around celestial objects, so if there are a lot of them in the way, they take longer routes. So the milennium falcon computer was able to calculate a very short route.

Skirting black holes sounds troublesome, though, as that would cause time dilation in normal physics and make your trip last longer.. like when they take a quick trip to the object closer to the black hole in Interstellar. From the point of view of the guy left behind on the main ship, that short trip lasts several decades. But I guess special physics for hyperspace could make up for that, perhaps that its space is not affected by gravity in the same way or something.
