How y'all feeling about gyms during delta?

I'm not particularly paranoid about covid in general but here I do feel weird being in an unventilated basement where everybody breathes as intensely as possible and social distancing is not a thing. No masks either, it's impossible to train in one.

The gym has a vaccine pass policy plus there's a very high rate of vaccination where I am rn. So it's likely perfectly safe, but I still feel a certain unease knowing that these are the conditions that are literally ideal for spread.

Yeah not sure about that. I was going pre-Delta and pre-vaccine, but now that the cases have been 20k+ in Malaysia for the past couple of months it's a whole different ball game.

I buckled and got some home gym equipment because in any case, the gyms are closed here and I have no idea when they will be opened.

Even if they do, I guess I'd do what I did before, avoid the rush hour if at all possible. We also have a gym in the condo with decent equipment that hardly anyone ever uses. I would do with that for the time being...:/

I've always kept weird hours so I'm no stranger to going to the gym at 3am, except 24/7 gyms is not really a thing where I am, especially seeing as everything that worked 24/7 pre-pandemic seems to have shifted to like 9am to 9pm.

Never lived in a building with a gym. Now seems like a good idea, though probably completely out of my price range.

It's a thing in 3rd world countries, almost every condo has it (and a pool, because tropics).

Working from home has/had its advantages. When I could, I just went in the afternoon before 5pm.

Is the pool water super warm though?

No, just right. I suppose because it's filtered. It wasn't super warm in the Middle east either, even in the middle of summer (when it's 40+C every day), but maybe they were cooling it there. The sea in the Arabian gulf in the summer was like piss though. Totally useless. Also here it's too warm for my liking, one of the downsides of the tropics I guess. Doesn't cool you off. I only found it cool in Lombok, Indonesia in May after the rainy season, or maybe they have some currents there.

Personally, I wouldn't take the risk, jadis, even though I'm (double) vaccinated. But then I'm (i) super cautious and (ii) prefer outdoor exercise.
MB can probably put you in touch with a disc golf player if you want

Tried doing the outdoor thing during lockdowns, dunno. You walk, you do some push-ups, maybe kick a soccer ball against the wall, end up feeling stupid and go back inside...

For all the limitations of the gym (I remember thinking I was pretty fit for years cause I kept up with it, and then trying to play soccer with guys in the park and finding out I'm like barely mobile and forgot how to make sudden motions), it does keep your back healthy and other things I need as someone leading a sedentary lifestyle.

I guess I'll get some weights online or something (not terribly useful since the entire idea of lifting is that you can adjust and increase the weights but marginally better than nothing I guess).

I got 2 of these, 24kg each, great for saving space. There is a heavier option but for me they are ok to maintain some level of fitness.

Coupled with a bench and a dip station a la:

I am quite happy, you can do quite a lot of things. Beats doing just bodyweight pushups and lunges at home anyway.
