Why Telling People They Don’t Need Masks Backfired

To help manage the shortage, the authorities sent a message that made them untrustworthy...

many health experts, including the surgeon general of the United States, told the public simultaneously that masks weren’t necessary for protecting the general public and that health care workers needed the dwindling supply. This contradiction confuses an ordinary listener. How do these masks magically protect the wearers only and only if they work in a particular field?...

of course masks work — maybe not perfectly and not all to the same degree, but they provide some protection. Their use has always been advised as part of the standard response to being around infected people, especially for people who may be vulnerable.

It would probably be happening if we had anyone other than DT as president

We’re not doing much better and I’m mostly worried about Florida’s stupidity and incompetence but there’s no telling how this is already ravaging India.

I’m hoping heat and humidity slow the spread of this thing.

Ebola is a different animal but Obama’s response was excellent and well-coordinated with the international community. Trump just put his head in the sand because he’s a moron. As soon as China started shutting **** down and building hospitals we should’ve been helping and preparing here.

South Korea saw an obvious disaster coming and prepared and the people there have a sense of civic responsibility and community so they cooperated.

America is a country of selfish *******s and that’s how we’ve been dealing with this. Still people are packing nightclubs and restaurants. All the restaurants on the beach should either be closed or making scaled down takeout only meals. The entire culture inside the kitchens needs to shift to making personal space, slowing way the **** down for hygiene, and not just grabbing used dishes and cutlery and splashing it down in the dish room. It means a meal that would take twenty minutes will take two hours. Tough ****. But it’s just the same bull**** short of completely closing and right now it seems that Florida would rather die. Many other states too.

We closed the shop to the public. We have a nice online presence so we'll be able to continue to make income but it's still a bummer of a situation. Sh*t hasn't even hit the fan yet in the tri-state area. I'm expecting an explosion in cases, myself included honestly, in the next three days. We'll see what happens.
