I don’t think they’re worse but you know...

The Republican Party has gutted and politicized everything science related that they could force their influence over. Speaking about America in particular we got a lot of work to do to rebuild and make our science institutions trustworthy and authoritative again.

I know I’m drastically changing gears and becoming less dogmatic with this post but we need to get back to being able to trust the EPA and the CDC and the FDA again. I think everyone who’s not insane and me all agree on that.

No idea what all those 3 letter acronyms stand for but I believe what you're saying about the republican party trying to mess with science to suit their own ends. But science should be independent of governments anyway, and apart from grants etc. coming form governments, scientific results from universities are just that: they are peer reviewed by an international community of scientists.

Well. These days whatever you believe you can find a scientist with a peer reviewed study to back you up and “consensus” has also been deeply politicized. Hopefully, in America, our current government can rebuild faith in institutions where a typical person can be like ok this is the legit consensus of the scientific community based on what they know at this point. It doesn’t mean like the CDC says it so it’s closed. Science always has to challenge the prevailing ideas to progress. But people still need a legit trusted authority for simple **** like fluoride or how often you should eat eggs what supplements are safe how dangerous is herpes or whatever it is. Right now imo Americans don’t have that. When I was a kid there was corruption but it wasn’t like the complete decay we have now. Right now we’re ****ing lost.

The problem with China was that they were suppressing information about the pandemic when it first started. I know the video I posted was an hour and a half long, but it goes in to detail on why they most likely did so, the problems it caused for WHO and the international community, and the actions Chinese doctors and scientists had to take.

Of course it gets politicized, but I'm not sure about the total lack of concensus. There seems to be a pretty strong concensus among scientists on many things, like global warming, evolution theory, quantum mechanics, whatever some crackpots may be saying.
There is the problem with people finding random statistics to back up their arguments, usually doing things like interpreting statistical evidence as causal evidence. You're probably also right about the lack of a clear scientific authority, and it doesn't help that facts get drowned out by misinformation. I guess I'm just trying to say that you shouldn't give up hope for science, although I don't think that's what you're doing.

China should be held responsible for Covid-19. The fact they even attempted to suppress information, regardless of whether or not they were directly responsible for the virus's creation, is a war crime 50 million times worse than anything the U.S. has done in decades.

I get that there was a lag between the medical community ringing alarm bells and the communist party acknowledging it but to anyway imply that even remotely compares to incredible and undeniable complete and unrelenting negligence of the west is insane revisionism.

They took measures to control it while America was actively INTENTIONALLY spreading it. Did you forget President Donald J Trump and all his superspreading GOVERNMENT events. Lol what are you smoking? If China had actually locked down, we wouldn't have seen a single case anywhere outside of Wuhan. If the rest of the world was unprepared, then so be it. But only China had the opportunity to do something before it became everyone else's problem. Your entire argument is based on the premise that the country of origin bears no responsibility when in fact they should be owning 100% of that responsibility. If the U.S. was the country of origin, you'd be making this exact argument to me. Don't be a hypocrite. Vietnam didn't become a den of death only because they did what China would not do.

I'm not making excuses for the West at all. I'm mainly talking about the period before they shut down Wuhan from December to the last week of January. It's dumb to place the blame entirely on China, and who knows what things would be like if the rest of the world knew a few weeks or a month beforehand. China is slow to wake, but they took extreme measures to contain it in their borders when they did act. Countries like the US don't really have the capability to do things like that (for various reasons).
