U.S. numbers

Hospitalizations are down but deaths are up. Not sure about the correlation but I rememer that trend when COVID was on the wane in New York back in June.

The county I live in had a record death day yesterday that was about three times the previous record.

In other news:

Quote:
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson resisted calls for an inquiry into his government's handling of the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday as the country's death toll neared 100,000 and his chief scientist said hospitals were looking like war zones.

Johnson has been accused of reacting too slowly to the crisis, failing to supply sufficient protective equipment and bungling the testing system, although the United Kingdom has been swift to roll out a vaccine.

The official death toll is 93,290 - Europe's worst figure and the world's fifth worst, after the United States, Brazil, India and Mexico. Deaths rose by another record daily number on Wednesday.
I know it’s bad form to just start throwing uninformed opinions around but let’s just say I’m concerned about the lethality of the new variants.

We get tons of tourism year round because of the beaches and Florida is just open for business like nothing’s happening so I’m sure all the new strains are right outside my door. If not inside, too.

From the RTE (Irish TV) news website:

Mr Martin has expressed concern following suggestions that the variant may be linked to higher death rates.

The discussion comes as the UK announced that those who contract the more highly transmissible strain have a 30 to 40% greater chance of dying from the disease will strengthen calls for adherence to the public health measures.

The variant already accounts for 62% of Covid-19 cases in Ireland and is becoming even more dominant.

I just listened to the BBC World Service Podcast and they said a couple days ago the UK had more single day deaths than any other country on earth and that in a large hospital in London with 500 ICU beds 400 are full with just covid patients and with other patients every single bed is full. And on top of that the staff are burning out like crazy. They’re like we just can’t keep doing this ****.

This new strain ****... man

Goddamn

The **** is ripping through where I’m at like never before too.

Are y’all following the local hospitalization and death rates locally where you’re at?

It's a little hard to keep track of, but it seems like my state is doing reasonably okay despite having a bunch of Republican psychopaths in our state assembly who are trying to kill everyone.

We're at our worst for hospital admissions since this began, despite - supposedly - being in lockdown. This was meant to last till mid February but now I doubt it'll be lifted till much later in the year. Paddy's Day Parade cancelled for the second year, no surprise. I still **** myself whenever I have to go outside the house. #SealYourselfIn

Well, I'm glad Biden has signed that order requiring masks in airports and federal property and a negative Covid-19 test when arriving stateside from other countries. Loooong overdue. The N95 and KN95 masks (best of the bunch) are not cheap but you can find deals. They're infinitely better than the jive face covers on the street and those butt ugly blue 3 ply 99cent jobs (like the one in this bloke's vid) -

I just went to grocery store / pharmacy

Only one jack ass without a mask

That’s all it takes but still

I don’t know why people think the way they do but I honestly believe it’s because Trump lost

Why that would matter is beyond me but hey
