I was before I went overseas because it was a few hundred cases in most places, but **** dawned on me half way through my trip. I felt like a major idiot for thinking it wasn't going to be a big deal.

Norg, our bodies are made up of cells. Cells reproduce. Over time cells will eventually mutate and start reproducing in a way that doesn’t suit our bodies. When deformed cells like that start reproducing they grow into tumors and that’s what cancer is. Cancer is not contagious because this cellular malfunction is contained in a single living organism. It’s like you can’t get a flat tire just because you drive by someone with a flat tire. It doesn’t jump from car to car. A virus is like a tiny bug. It’s very odd because it needs to be inside a cell to come alive and start reproducing. However, they can exist outside of cells for a certain amount of time waiting to make contact with a cell so it can come alive and start reproducing. Some viruses are destroyed very quickly when they’re not inside a cell but others can hang around waiting for a new cell to call home where it can start reproducing again for a long time. The coronavirus is very very good at finding new cells in which it can reproduce. And because it can exist outside of one person’s body and then jump to another person’s body that makes it contagious. And the coronavirus is very tricky because it can reproduce in a person for a long time and not make them sick but the more that virus reproduces (or replicates) the more contagious that person becomes even if they don’t feel sick. But once the coronavirus starts reproducing in your body’s cells it’s very dangerous mostly because it likes to live in your lungs and after enough of them have replicated it becomes very difficult and sometimes impossible to breathe. And unfortunately there’s no cure so if it starts happening to you all that you and the doctors can do is wait and see if it kills you. These are very simple explanations and not perfect but I hope it helps you understand why the coronavirus is a different sort of problem than cancer. Thanks for reading.
