It ****ing kills me and maybe literally because there really is an answer. Just stop giving the virus new vectors. That’s all. I know I’m a goddamn broken record but Jesus ****ing Christ.

I agree that this is part of it along with a general lack of critical thinking/science/logic education, but I think that a bigger issue is information sources. The first time that some people heard of the coronavirus was through their friend opining that they thought that a preventative law was bull****, and they learned of the law through a meme's representation of the media's representation of a public official's representation of their cabinet/campaign team/lobbyist's representation of the science. So by the time they hear the science it's been tarnished by a slew of legitimate and perceived biases/agendas/influences and most people don't take the time to verify their first impression.

Ja there's a lot of people being careful in California but the entitled idiots are coming out of the woodwork after doing the bare minimum for a week.

Hope you feel better man.

Actually, I said "trash", but what I meant was the chemical recycler down the street.

About soap: like toilet paper, we buy in bulk on some things,
so soap, for instance, has never been a problem. There's a kind
of soap that I get in 10 or 12 packs - each a different "essence"
which I like and is also not from a big name company. One thing
I am doing is that when I clean off the countertops, I use soap on
a small sponge and then do a very light rinse so that it leaves a thin
layer of unseen soap on the counter. Since I rarely put food directly on
the countertop, it's not a problem - same thing when washing hands:
I don't rinse my hands/arms completely - just a bit of a film is left.

I think the way I deal with the depressing aspects of people's stupidity is to simply avoid them.
I suppose that's a luxury for me, but I might get in the car about once every two weeks to drive around:
1) because my car can't sit for very long without starting it up and
2) I just want to get out for an hour or so.
Just about the time I decided that I wanted to go back out and do my 10 mile bike around the lake,
the numbers here started to skyrocket. The fancy Thai restaurant that I wanted to help out every two weeks?
I haven't been in almost 4 - and I'm debating on whether to go pick something up on Sunday.
To not feel like I'm being held hostage, I just keep working on creative stuff and the time flies by.
Just hang in there.

Yes, it must be very worrying in the US. There are various exceptions, but I hope people in England and Mexico are being more responsible. For different reasons, I think people in both countries are more ready to accept rules without bleating about loss of fundamental rights.

If you do, try to squeeze in a quote I heard from Neils Degrasse Tyson about flat earthers:

"The rise in flat earthers tells me two things about this country: one, it is a land of free speech; two, we have a failed educational system."

The dysfunction I saw as a teacher was beyond belief. That’s another thread, though
