To take just one recommended parametre for easing a lockdown safely: your incidence of daily new cases should be at 4 per 100,000 of population. European countries, at their peaks, had between 7 and 9 cases per thousand, so they beat that daily figure down by at least 5 cases before they eased lockdowns. The US is currently at 18 daily new cases, so they need to beat that number down by 14 cases in order to open safely. On just that one parametre, Trump's bungled leadership means that the US now has to achieve a reduction in daily cases that is three times what Europe had to do. That's a challenge that the present admin may struggle with: that they couldn't get it right first time, when it was easier, is not encouraging.
