You know what I think is the most horrible thing about the current American approach to the epidemic is that with so many state governments going along with Trump's "encouragements" to reopen the economy is that now those state governments are going to feel obligated to downplay any death spikes so that they don't look irresponsible for playing along so that the only way for this to end up looking bad for the government is if deaths spike so hard that it can't be ignored, otherwise an acceptable number of unnecessary deaths are going to be accepted by state politicians just so that they don't have to admit that they were just being led along by the nose. Human lives are going to be weighed against political embarrassment and be deemed an acceptable loss.

If we had quarantined at gun point and had MREs delivered by the national guard in hazmat suits, like I wanted, the virus would be contained - because it needs a ****ing vector

I listen to Africa Today BBC podcast. Every African country they’ve featured in terms of their response is taking the threat more seriously than western countries and they certainly have better resources to deal with it than the US. Both Ghana and Madagascar are far ahead of the United States with testing and they’re providing superior services to people who test positive. They’re certainly not just sending them back in the community to fend for themselves and continue to spread the virus which is the current US strategy.
