No country had the foresight to fund that team out of Texas back in 2013-2016 who were actively looking to develop a coronavirus-family vaccine after SARS. And because Obama and other countries said no, they never bothered to approach Trump's administration afterward (and they likely wouldn't have funded it either). Everything got shoved into cold storage to gather dust.

NBC News - Scientists were close to a coronavirus vaccine years ago. Then the money dried up.

Jacksonville since the reopening. That old couple with the dog. They’ll be dead by Memorial Day. That little brown hottie in the Nike’s is killing them.

Bummer but not surprising. Maybe this pandemic will improve preventative medical research instead of our current reactionary approach.

That would be nice. We're lucky SARS got KO'd by Viagra gas.

For the record, not to rehash old ****, but I never read any articles reporting on Trump's stupid comment I only watched the actual comment where he asked if disinfectant could be injected to kill the virus. So I wouldn't know if news outlets lied about it. I just know they typical hyperbolic satire floating around social media about it. So context didn't change anything for me, but if news outlets did say that he told people to drink bleach and inject Lysol that is dishonest and only slightly more stupid than what he actually did say which was undeniably stupid and irresponsible as is.

99/100 times, the "context" that supposedly changes everything about whatever Trump says is wholly consistent with how it's being reported. While the media tends to explain the context pretty decently, their headlines don't often do this since headlines are used to give the gist of the article instead of detailing the whole situation in one sentence fragment. Many Trump supporters get confused by this.

You probably do too, but I doubt it. There are way too many signs pointing to nothing positive or proactive coming out of this. Incarceration rates are going to stay high. There’s already a movement toward house arrest ankle bracelet with forced enslavement but the county lockups are still staying and will remain overcrowded, violent, insanity inducing petri dishes. I know you’re talking about accelerating our approaches to vaccines and so forth but even the low hanging fruit of universal nutrition, housing, and health care - the large scale equivalent to washing our hands - isn’t even remotely on the table. Our policies of environmental devastation are still running full force which also gives a free pass to the proliferation of all kinds of human hostile pathogens and their vectors. As flooding and storms continue to amplify so do the unsanitary conditions that come with them. And war... we’re still at it. If there was ever a time for “swords into plowshares” it’s right now but it’s not even being discussed.

Or it could be a response to the memes. But at that point who ever is trusting memes is probably a lost cause in the first place.
