In the nineties we took the Amtrak train from New York to San Francisco. One ten minutes change in Chicago where the two trains stood ten meters apart. We slept in the seats and on the floor of the panoramic wagon, passed smal cities and big cities, watched the sun rise in the Utah desert, counted the bald eagles sitting on the trees along the Colorado River, after twenty I stopped counting, strolled through Salt Lake City during a break and arrived in San Francisco on time. Not so bad for 220$.

The ticket price ($213) for the Amtrak traiin journey in 2011 was the same as in the nineties? Wow.

Across the USA by train for just $213
